Mardi Gras Chicken

Louis was a Cajun and a Cajun true
Doing Mardi Gras like the Cajuns do
Had him a  rooster named Renard
Baddest little bird in the chicken yard
Louis went to ray said, "Lookie here
I'm-a gonna put you in the grand courir
If you get away, you’re free and true
Catch ya and you’re going in the chicken stew"

Louis gonna make a chicken fricassee

Renard hits the dirt and he’s running hard
Tryin' to get some help in the old barnyard
Ray asks the horse to hide him in the hay
Horse give a snort and the horse say nay
Ray asks the hog if he would help him flee
Hog said, "Chicken, better you than me"
Ray said, "Hog, I'm-a runnin' free and 
You’re gonna wind up in the boucherie"

Mardi Gras Chicken and you can’t catch me

So here we are:  Mardi Gras day on the bayou
Louis and the Cajuns in the grand courir
Riding their horses in hot pursuit of that plucky chicken, Renard
Renard says, "I could run to the woods, it’s true,
but there you got the wolves and the loup garou"
Ray says, "Naw, man.  I'm gonna head to the swamp"

Ray runs to the swamp where he finds more grief
Got a nine-foot gator with six-inch teeth
Staring at the gator, gator look back
Says, “Come here, lil' chicken
make me a nice snack.”
“Say, Mr. gator, let’s make a deal
Swallow me now and I ain’t a whole meal
but if you can help me get away,
I'll give you every egg that I ever lay”

Mardi Gras Chicken and you can't catch me

Ray jump and hide in the gator's jaw
Poking out his eyes, here’s what he saw
Louis ride up and say, “Cajuns, whoa!
We got a nine-foot gator here in the road
Better turn around and check our track
I'll bet you that chicken must have doubled back
That’s what I say; that's what I say
Cajun turns around and rides the other way

At least we got a hog for the boucherie

Ray jumps out the mouth says, “Alligator
I’m-a head along and I’ll see you later”
Gator says, “Remember your promise, Ray
Gimme every egg that you ever lay”
Ray says, “I won’t lie, and I won’t beg
but I'm a rooster and I don't lay eggs
I kept my promise, but I got you, brah
'Cause I’m a free bird this Mardi Gras
Gator:  “hunh?”  “wha?”  “you mother clucker!”
