I’ve been listening to the youth of today
and I’ve heard some say that it’s their first presidential election
but they aren’t gonna vote
because their guy didn’t get in and they aren’t pleased with the choice
they have to make, and this is all so unprecedented … well kids, let you old Uncle Davis tell ya, it’s been like this for a long long time

When I was young I got excited about a candidate
He spoke of hope, he spoke of change
A future that was great
There I was 17 years old
I called myself into action
Standing outside my high school
Campaigning for Jesse Jackson
Jesse Jackson had some radical ideas
Back in the mid 80’s
like free college and universal health care.

But the nomination went to Fritz Mondale

I wasn’t excited about Dukakis
But I voted for him and Kerry
Then we wound up with Bush one and two
And America got scary

Man I liked Elizabeth Warren
Booker and Sanders too
But now we’re in the middle of a national crisis
Doesn’t matter the shade of blue
